Who is a candidate? Women who desire larger or more shapely, lifted breasts following pregnancy. Women who have excess skin or fatty tissue and/or abdominal muscle laxity following pregnancy.

Procedure description: The combined procedures are performed on an outpatient basis under MAC (Monitored Anesthesia Care). A small incision is made under the armpit (transaxillary) and a silicone or saline implant is inserted under the breast tissue or under the breast tissue and the underlying muscle. Mini-abdominoplasty tightens the lower abdominal wall skin only (shortest scar). Standard abdominoplasty tightens all of the abdominal wall skin (standard scar). Extended abdominoplasty tightens the abdomen and the flanks or sides (longest scar extending around the flanks onto lower back.)

Recuperation and healing: For the breast augmentation procedure, the patient goes home in a bra. The bra helps hold the breasts in the correct position. Abdominoplasty is one of the more uncomfortable plastic surgery procedures. One to three days of hospitalization or skilled nursing care is usually indicated or can be done on an outpatient basis. Light activity is comfortable in 10-20 days. Sports will not be comfortable for about 6 weeks.

Other options: An additional procedure that would enhance the result is a Mastopexy (breast lift) — if the breasts are saggy in addition to being small.

Insurance Guidelines: This procedure is considered cosmetic and therefore is not covered by insurance. The patient is responsible for payment.
