Let me introduce myself. I'm the surgeon that you hope someday might make things better for you. For some it will be in a small minimally significant way. For many others it will be more dramatic and life changing. In the time spent with me during your consultation we will discuss your concerns as I examine the areas you want to address. You will also meet several of my staff members who are legitimately some of the finest health care professionals you will ever come to know. As an Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery at Brown University I also have the responsibility of training young Plastic Surgeons including medical students from Brown Medical School.

The decision to choose me as your surgeon requires that you develop enough confidence in my skills to give me permission to do what's necessary to correct the problem that's been bothering you. Countless questions often arise during this process. Many patients feel frightened that the essential ones will not be asked or discussed. Please remember that we are here to fully respond to your individual questions and will always endeavor to give an honest, clinically sound response. The greatest detail about your procedure, its risks and benefits and post-operative period care will be covered in the Informed Consent package of papers you will be asked to sign once you have read them at home and are clear about them. A member of my staff will always be available to discuss your concerns.
I have trained at some of the finest medical institutions in the world including the Cleveland Clinic, Harvard University/Massachusetts General Hospital and my alma mater Brown. I am an Oral Board Examiner for the American Board of Plastic Surgery. I am board-certified in three specialties. To further reinforce your confidence in my technical and esthetic surgical skills I must tell you that I was honored to have done live surgery for over 400 surgeons from more than 20 countries at the world's most prestigious breast meeting held yearly in Atlanta, Georgia last year which includes the world's finest esthetic surgeons. In the past several years I have been asked to teach all over the world as an expert in breast and body contouring surgery in many countries from Brazil to Japan. I am confident that I can deliver as fine a result as available anywhere in the world. One of my greatest joys in life is restoring my patient's self image. I realize I am only part of the healing equation and would like to be your coach in this quest for self-improvement or reconstruction. You will become a part of a team that you can depend on for understanding and genuine care. Most patients say it feels like family being here with us. We welcome you to experience the same.

"This is to thank you for the absolutely wonderful care and treatment I have received from each and every member of your staff. I can say that, without exception, I have never had a bad experience in all the times I have been there - unless of my own making, of course (leaving my glasses there, etc.)! From the minute I walk in to the minute I walk out I am always treated with kindness, professionalism, respect, understanding, patience, care, and genuine friendliness. I have never been to any another doctor's office where I can say that to a person, every single member of the staff is pure quality. You are all a credit to your profession, and certainly make the world a much nicer place.
If this chocolate makes you too fat, I know a really good cosmetic surgeon who can help you out...
God bless,
Pat
(Please also share this with Mike. Although he isn't necessarily a member of you staff, he should be!)"

Dr. Zeinowicz,
I know I will probably see you several times in the future, but I wanted to say thank you once again for seeing me safely and successfully through my surgery. From your consult, to your literature, and your wonderful staff, everything went just as I hoped. You certainly perfected this procedure and I am so happy I chose you to do this. - And I know you've seen millions of breasts, but you can't even believe how amazing it feels to be given this feeling of confidence and femininity, that is so very important to a woman. It must feel great to have a job that changes people's lives in such a positive way.
Thank you again.

Dear Dr. Amaral,
I am the woman whose story "I Got the News All Women Dread" appeared as the Cover Story in Providence Journal's "Lifestyles" magazine, on Dec. 26, 2004. I wanted to demystify the experience of being diagnosed and undergoing reconstruction surgery; at the same time, I wish to herald my RI doctors, Theresa Graves and Rick Zienowicz, as well as Linda Livingston in radiology (she has since married and has a new name).
Now, I have submitted a follow-up piece to Seth Klaiman for possible publication in the hospitals newspaper and have sent in a contribution to the mammography department of RI Hospital last December. You see, I know how fortunate I am and would like to work so that others might have a similar positive outcome. To that effect, I offer my services as a spokesperson and fund-raiser. I have experience in public-speaking and know I could be a valuable resource: after all, I am a RI woman who has recovered well from 4 surgeries over 2 years, a woman who today has a positive outlook do to the skill of RI surgeons. In addition, I am a writer and a speaker.
You may access more information about me via my 2 websites: www.yteach.org focuses on my educational material published and colleenmellor.com highlights my real estate business. I donate funds from my real estate business to charitable ventures.
I am sending you the recent story I sent to Seth, along with my offer to do public speaking services for RI Hospital in fund-raising mode. Barbara Scheppes and I have discussed where she might utilize new money coming in, and I am committed to trying to get her that money. As you will read in my story, I recommend other optimal situations I'd like to suggest as a patient advocate, but you may have some of this in place already; I wasn't sure....it has been a while since I walked that path.
So, please feel free to contact me...As I said in my piece, so many people offered the foregone conclusion "that I was going to Boston for Treatment, of course," and I can only say I am thrilled with my decision to remain with RI professional medical treatment.
Most sincerely,
Colleen Mellor

Dear Dr. Z,
I wanted to thank you once again for the amazing work you've done on me. I feel and look much better than I ever have. There is not one day that goes by that my husband doesn't compliment me. Even I look at my new body everyday and am very thankful to you. I just can't believe what my eyes see. You will be sure to meet a handful of women I've recommended to you. At least after they're done having their babies. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I LOVE IT!
Happy holidays to you and your family!

Dr. Z,
I just wanted to say "thank you" for the amazing job you did on my Tummy Tuck. Although I am only a month into my recovery, I am thrilled with the outcome and the transformation is unbelievable. I know my results will only improve as time goes on - but it is hard to imagine they are going to be even better than they are now! You are a true artist with a special talent.
I also want you to know your entire staff are true professionals. They have made me feel very comfortable and never hesitated to answer any questions or concerns I have. You are not only a doctor and his staff but feel you have become my friend, too!
Thank you again - you all are awesome.
